We met the new mission president and his family this Saturday. He was great and we went over 2 kings 5. How our area was the desert and was going to blossom like a rose like the scriptures said. Also, one of the things we started for our area was a ward Email and this last one was about the Book of Mormon. We also found a few good links that I will include. Also, for July we had a game day and some members from another ward feed us.
Here is our message from he ward newsletter:
Happy Fourth of July! I hope you have a great day remembering the wonderful miracle of our nation. I have had great opportunities to share the miracle of the Book of Mormon and the blessings therein. These experiences have caused us to ponder often the countless blessings contained in just a few hundred pages found in the Book of Mormon.
As members of the church We often hear the Book of Mormon described at the "keystone of our religion" or, in other words, the central structural piece upholding everything we believe in. That's a pretty bold claim to have a book be the thing that holds it all together. How does ink, paper, and a promise hold up an entire belief system and lifestyle of everyone in the church? That question might simply be answered by the Book itself when one of the writers states "...by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. The key is to realize that the Book of Mormon is much more than ink, and paper. It is more than history lesson. The introduction of Book of Mormon explains that It is a record of God’s dealings with ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains the fulness of the everlasting gospel." The doctrine of Jesus Christ, Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the end. The book was written by many ancient prophets by the spirit of prophecy and revelation and as such tells us what we should do to have eternal life. When we have trouble we can find safety in the Book of Mormon. As President Boyd K.Packer said "True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior. The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior.” When we want to repent, we can study the doctrine and it can bless us, our friends, and our neighbors.
Concerning this record the Prophet Joseph Smith said: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.”
In my personal life I the Book of Mormon to be a pure channel of revelation. You must realize that questions are healthy. Joseph Smith himself received many revelations in response to honest questions, that is why he read James 1:5 and had the first vision. Scriptures, teachers, and reason can help with a few questions, but only the Holy Ghost can confirm that God is real, that Jesus is the Christ, and that the Church is true.
